Argentina takes World Cup title

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar ended on December 18 with Argentina as the champion. The team beat 2018 champions France in an incredible final that was tied 3–3 after extra time and decided with a penalty kick shootout. Argentina was led by star Lionel Messi, who had never won a World Cup. He scored twice in the final and became the first player to score in each elimination round at a single World Cup. He won the World Cup Golden Ball, an award for the most outstanding player. He is the first player to have won it multiple times.
