Equal pay for female soccer players

Members of the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) scored a major off-the-field victory in February. They reached a deal with the US Soccer Federation (the group that oversees US soccer) that ensures they will be paid the same as the US Men’s National Team (USMNT). USWNT players were awarded $22 million to make up for the years when they weren’t paid equally. Players from both national teams will now split earnings when either one plays in the FIFA World Cup, the top soccer competition in the world. As a result of the USMNT’s performance at the recent World Cup, the teams will share at least $13 million, which is more than the women earned from their World Cup appearances in 2015 and 2019 combined.…
