Tigers come roaring back in Nepal

A July survey of tigers in Nepal found that there are an estimated 355 of them living in the wild, nearly three times the number in 2009. Tiger populations throughout Asia have been decreasing, mainly because of poaching (illegal hunting) and habitat loss. To help reverse the decline, Nepal’s government enacted harsher punishments for poaching. Protected national parks were also created to safeguard the tigers and bring money to local communities. And conservationists created pathways through forests to connect populations of tigers and increase opportunities for mating.…
