Ketanji Brown Jackson joins Supreme Court

On April 7, Ketanji Brown Jackson made history when she was confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States. She is the first Black woman to serve on the most powerful US court of law in its 233-year history. Jackson is also the first justice who has been a public defender (attorney who represents people who can’t afford a lawyer). President Joe Biden nominated Jackson in February to replace Justice Stephen Breyer, who retired in June, and the US Senate approved her by a vote of 53–47. Jackson is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a former federal judge.
