PUMPKIN PADDLING Duane Hansen, from Nebraska, US, has set a new world record after paddling 38 miles in a giant hollowed-out pumpkin, which he named Berta. One of Hansen’s hobbies is growing large vegetables, such as pumpkins. The journey took him around 11 hours. PORPOISES IN THE THAMES The Zoological Society of London has revealed that harbour porpoises who recently started living in the River Thames, in south-east England, are thriving. The marine mammals lived in the Thames 200 years ago, before the water became polluted. They are now returning because the river is cleaner again.
