Jupiter has 53 named moons but scientists now think it has 79 in all. Its four largest are called the Galilean satellites, named after the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, who first observed them in 1610. One of these moons is called Io and it is the most volcanically active place in the solar system. It is covered in hundreds of volcanoes, all erupting. Another moon is called Europa and is mostly covered in ice. There is evidence that the ice may be covering an ocean of water. Europa is thought to have twice as much water as Earth and scientists think it could hide living things.…
