One of Asia’s top design festivals, Singapore Design Week, returned for the first time after the pandemic from 16 to 26 September. One of the festival shows, called Emerge, featured work from 55 new young design studios from south-east Asia. One of its main themes was creating products sustainably by using recycled materials.
Designer Adhi Nugraha created speakers and lamps using cow dung. Although it’s a natural material, cow dung can pollute water and releases gases that contribute to climate change. Nugraha and his team washed the dung with water to get rid of the smell, then combined it with waste plastic to create their products.
