Finland’s clever wooden city

A new school made almost entirely out of wood is being built in Helsinki, Finland. The school, which won’t be ready until next year and smells of pine forests inside, is one of many wooden buildings in the capital city. It is part of Finland’s plan to become more environmentally friendly. Making buildings out of wood releases less carbon dioxide (CO2) than steel and concrete. Building with wood is part of Finland’s plan to be carbon-neutral by 2035. This means the country needs to soak up all the CO2 that it produces.
