The wonder plant helping Wales

Scientists in Wales are fighting climate change (long-term changes in world weather patterns, including rising temperatures) with seagrass, a plant that grows in the sea. A new project is working with local communities to replant seagrass that has been damaged or destroyed by boats, pollution and tourism. Seagrass is good for the Earth because it absorbs and stores away lots of carbon dioxide, a gas produced by things like burning fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil). Carbon dioxide is a “greenhouse gas”. This means it traps heat from the Sun in the atmosphere and makes the planet warm up.
