The Chestnut Roaster author talks about Paris, leaves and skeletons.

What inspired you to write this book? I found a leaf skeleton – a leaf with its coat stripped away leaving behind a maze of tiny veins. As I followed its lines, I wondered if I was looking at a map to a mysterious underground world – perhaps Paris’s catacombs. And the book’s title? Once I had chosen the Parisian setting, I remembered the smell of roasting chestnuts on street corners. I decided little Piaf would be a chestnut roaster, placing her in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Paris What’s your favourite scene in the book?
