UK and France agree small boats deal

On 14 November, the UK and France agreed a deal to prevent migrants (people who have chosen to leave their country to find work, education or to improve their lives) from crossing the English Channel in small boats. The English Channel is the stretch of water that separates the UK from France. The UK’s Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, signed the deal in Paris with French politician Gérald Darmanin. What will the new deal do? It aims to stop the overcrowded small boats by targeting the people who operate them. The UK will pay France £63 million this year, an increase of £8 million.
