The UK’S first space launch

In Newquay, Cornwall, in the south-west of England, scientists are preparing to launch the first satellites into space from the UK. A Virgin Atlantic passenger plane has been adapted to carry a rocket out over the Atlantic to an official launch zone just south of Ireland. At a height of 10,668 metres, the plane will release the rocket, which will start its engine and begin the climb to space. It will carry nine satellites (an object placed into orbit in space). They are not much bigger than toasters and some will be used to gather information to help stop crimes such as illegal fishing.…
