Photo amazes whale experts

Whale researchers are surprised after seeing a photograph of two whales swimming together. What’s strange is that the whales are from different species. The picture, which was taken by photographer Jess Wohling, shows an adult southern right whale swimming beside a young humpback whale along the coast of Esperance in Western Australia. It is very rare to see these two species interacting, especially in this way. Katy Fannei, a whale researcher, told ABC News that she had texted everyone she knew after seeing the picture. Young humpback whales have very strong bonds with their mothers. They stay together for up to 12 months before the youngster heads off to make its own way in the world.
