With the coronation, it was obvious what to have on this week’s cover: our report on the history of the Crown Jewels (page 12). Even so, our pages are bursting with so many brilliant stories that we had lots of options. My favourite is about the secret world of ponds (page 11). They seem so tranquil to us but it’s a party down there! When scientists listened in they heard a riot of scratches, plops, squeaks and gurgles from all the different plants and creatures that share the space. I also loved the story of the fungi that can eat plastic both on land and in the sea (page 14). The tricks and stunts that the Harlem Globetrotters perform (page 18) still amaze audiences, and if you enjoy live performance…
