BBC chief quits after investigation

On 28 April, Richard Sharp announced that he will resign as BBC chairman, after an investigation found that he broke rules when he applied for the job. The BBC chairman is in charge of how the organisation is run and must make sure that it doesn’t favour any side in political arguments. Who is Richard Sharp? Sharp became BBC chairman in February 2021. Boris Johnson, who was Prime Minister at the time, recommended Sharp for the role. Sharp already knew Johnson and had given more than £400,000 to the Conservative Party (the political party that Johnson led).
