App helps young people in hospital

Anew app is helping young hospital patients to understand more about their treatment, using games, augmented-reality (AR) technology and a chatbot that answers their questions. The Xploro app was designed by a British man named Dom Raban, after his daughter Issy was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma when she was 13. Raban saw how stressful Issy found it being treated without knowing what was happening and what to expect. His Xploro app is being tested with young people in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, with researchers from Edge Hill University, in Lancashire, studying its effects.
