Africa’s oldest human burial

An international team of researchers has discovered the oldest-known human burial in Africa. The remains of a child aged about two or three were found buried near the entrance of Panga ya Saidi, a large cave system in Kenya where early humans once lived. A study of the bones found that they were about 80,000 years old. The first signs of the remains were found in 2013 but they were so fragile that it took researchers four years to dig them out of the hardened earth. The bones were sent to the National Museum in Nairobi, Kenya, and to a laboratory in Spain for analysis.
