Glowing orange toad discovered

A bright orange toad that glows in the dark has been found in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. It was discovered by a team led by Ivan Sergio Nunes Silva from Brazil’s São Paulo State University and it is part of a group of at least 36 species known as pumpkin toadlets. The newly discovered amphibian has been given the Latin name Brachycephalus rotenbergae. As with other pumpkin toadlets, its bright orange colour is a signal to predators that their skin carries poisonous chemicals. When placed in ultraviolet light (a type of light that they can see but humans can’t) the toad’s skin glows – even in complete darkness.
