White-tailed eagle’s Norfolk return

White-tailed eagles will be reintroduced to Norfolk, on England’s east coast, to help establish a population of the birds in the region. It will be the second time that white-tailed eagles have been released in England. The project, which is led by the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, will oversee the release of 60 young birds over 10 years at Wild Ken Hill near King’s Lynn. It is hoped that this will lead to a small breeding population of between six and 10 pairs of eagles living there. White-tailed eagles, which have a wingspan of around 2.5 metres, used to be widespread across the UK. The last ones in the UK survived in Scotland until about 100 years ago.
