Award winners M.G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman

On 13 May, The Highland Falcon Thief, the first instalment in the Adventures on Trains series, won the Children’s Fiction prize at the 2021 British Book Awards. The next day, the book’s authors, M.G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman, spoke to The Week Junior. Sedgman said the win was “life changing” because it is the first book he’s ever written. For Leonard, who is also the author of the award-winning Beetle Boy trilogy, the victory was just as exciting. “I know just how prestigious an award it is to win and how rare it is to even get shortlisted for such a prize,” she said.
