Pterosaur feathers revealed

Beautifully preserved remains from Brazil have confirmed for the first time that the pterosaurs (flying reptiles that lived alongside dinosaurs) had feathers. Scientists studying the fossil (an impression or trace of an ancient plant or animal preserved in the ground) found that it had a fuzzy covering, with feathers of different types on different parts of its body. The feathers wouldn’t have helped it fly but may have started out as a way for the reptile to keep warm. Traces of colour chemicals called pigments inside the feathers suggest that they also had bright colours for display.…
