Venice’s women artists celebrated

Save Venice, an organisation dedicated to looking after the artistic history of Venice, in Italy, has launched a project called Women Artists of Venice. It aims to uncover the history of female artists from Venice from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Venice is one of the most popular cities in the world for tourists, who come to see the art, buildings and canals. Experts might know about many of the city’s women artists but most of the public have never heard of them. The Women Artists of Venice project has already been able to preserve work by the artist Giulia Lama, whose paintings from the early 18th century were on display in a church.
