Helping her community

A mum from Cardiff has turned her house into an unofficial “charity shop” that offers young people clothes, technology and toys for free. Kayla Ellis got the idea when her son was picked on at school because of his backpack. She wanted to make sure that no one felt left out because their parents couldn’t afford the latest things. She asked local people for donations and now gets all sorts of items – including gaming consoles and trainers – and posts items on her Facebook page. As well as reducing waste, Kayla hopes that her efforts will support families who are finding life hard at the moment. “Children shouldn’t just have the basics of life,” she says, “they should have the kinds of games and toys their peers have.”…
