Prince Charles delivers Queen’s Speech

Prince Charles, the heir (next in line) to the throne, stood in for the Queen for her yearly speech to Parliament on 10 May. The speech, which is written by Government ministers but usually read out by the Queen, sets out what the Government plans to do over the next year. This is the first time since 1963 that the Queen did not attend Parliament to read out the speech. On 9 May, after talking it over with doctors, the Queen decided not to go. The speech included details of the Government’s plans to help people with the cost of living crisis, as well as improving the quality of schools and education.…
