Whether it’s bickering with siblings or getting told off, family arguments aren’t nice. However, families arguing is normal and finding ways to cope is important. What is family conflict? Most families argue sometimes, says psychologist Dr Emma Morris (an expert in feelings and behaviour). “It’s quite normal,” she explains. You might argue more with your family than with other people because you can get upset and offload your feelings and your family will still love you. “Parents and carers are also the ones we negotiate all the difficult stuff with, like what we are allowed and not allowed to do,” Morris says. “With siblings, it’s easy to clash over what is fair.” Sometimes the adults in your home may argue, which can be upsetting.
