Company creates woolly mice

As part of its efforts to create a type of woolly mammoth, a company has created real-life “woolly mice”. Colossal Laboratories & Biosciences, which is based in the US, has grown baby mice with the golden, woolly hair of the ancient elephant species – even if they don’t quite match the woolly mammoth for size. Researchers made the mice by editing (changing) the genes of mouse cells and injecting the altered genes into mouse embryos. Genes are short sections of DNA, a chemical that carries all the information about a body and its characteristics, and an embryo is the first stage of development of a living thing.
