6 March 1945 The trampoline is patented Seventy-nine years ago, inventor and gymnast George Nissen was granted the patent (exclusive legal permission) for a “tumbling device”, now known as a trampoline. Nissen had wanted to build a device that would allow gymnasts to bounce back up after performing acrobatics. The trampoline soon gained fame in gymnastics and other areas such as space training. Trampolining became an official sport in 1962 and an Olympic event in 2000.…
