A trip to Ukraine

In 1984, 142,000 Welsh coal miners went on strike (stopped working in protest) over plans to shut down coal mines, which would put thousands of people out of work. Miners from all around the world came to support the strike. Vasyl Yavorsky, a Ukrainian miner, sent a donation to Wales, which included his own wages. Now, 40 years later, the Welsh miners are repaying the favour. A group stocked up on essential supplies and medicines and drove from South Wales to Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, to deliver the goods. “We are mining brothers,” Yavorsky told the BBC. “They did not forget about us.”…
