UK marks Covid Day of Reflection

On 9 March, people around the UK marked the Covid-19 Day of Reflection. This was to remember people who died during the Covid-19 pandemic, and to thank NHS staff and other frontline workers. What is Covid-19? Covid-19 is an infectious disease that started in Wuhan, China in 2019. For many, having Covid-19 feels like a bad cold but for others it can be far more serious. The World Health Organisation, a global organisation responsible for people’s health, declared Covid-19 to be a pandemic on 11 March 2020. A pandemic is an outbreak of a disease that spreads across many countries. On 26 March, the UK entered lockdown. This meant people couldn’t leave their homes unless they really had to.
