Researchers have found that the intense heat of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79 caused a man’s brain to turn to glass. Mount Vesuvius is a volcano in Italy. It erupted extremely violently nearly 2,000 years ago and buried the nearby cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae in a thick layer of ash, which was extremely hot. This preserved some human bodies in very good condition, which has helped historians learn more about the eruption and what life was like back then. Among the preserved bodies, historians found a man who had been lying in his bed when the layer of hot ash struck. Inside his skull there were pea-sized chunks of black glass.
