The life cycle of an iceberg

Icebergs start off as chunks of ice that break off from glaciers. A glacier is a large area of ice formed by compressed snow that slowly moves over land. The process of breaking away from the glacier is known as “calving”. Most icebergs in the northern hemisphere come from Greenland. In the southern hemisphere, almost all of them come from Antarctica. Once an iceberg calves, it typically floats around for between three and six years before it melts or breaks up.…
