Are poems better than stories?

World Poetry Day is a chance to discover some wonderful poems.

What’s your favourite poem? For some people it’s a short, funny limerick. For others it might be a famous love sonnet written by William Shakespeare. Some poems describe the beauty of nature, such as I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, by William Wordsworth; others spark questions about identity or family, such as Presents From My Aunts in Pakistan, by Moniza Alvi or Digging, by Seamus Heaney. There are epic poems that tell of heroes and monsters, such as the Old English epic Beowulf, which is 3,182 lines long. On the other hand, there are Japanese haiku poems, which have just three lines. When it comes to poetry, there is something for everybody. Some people say reading a poem is better than tucking into a normal story. What do you think?…
