Leaders discuss Gaza’s future

Leaders of several countries have been holding different meetings to discuss the next stages of a ceasefire (pause in fighting) in Gaza. Gaza is a strip of land that borders Israel and Egypt. What is the situation in Gaza? Gaza has been at the centre of conflict between Israel and Hamas since 7 October 2023. On that date, Hamas, which governs Gaza and is classified as a terrorist group by many countries, attacked Israel. The Israeli government reports that Hamas killed around 1,200 people and took 251 hostages (people held until certain demands are met) on that day.
