This feisty mammal is famous for the terrifying screeches it lets out in the dead of night. It was given the name Tasmanian devil by early European settlers, who were haunted by the chilling sounds it makes. ● LIFESPAN IN THE WILD: Up to six years. ● HABITAT: Only found in Tasmania, this mammal lives in underground burrows or hollow logs found in dry eucalypt forests and open woodlands. ● DIET: Whatever meat is available. This includes insects, other small mammals and fish that have died and washed ashore. ● FUN FACT: Tasmanian devils are the largest species of carnivorous marsupial in the world.
