Legend has it that Robin Hood and his merry men stole from the rich and gave to the poor in this famous forest. Sherwood Forest boasts 450 acres of country park and is home to 900 oak trees, including The Major Oak – England’s Tree of the Year 2014. Marked nature trails take you through the leafy glades where you might spot nuthatches, jays, woodpeckers and redstarts. This summer the forest is hosting the Robin Hood Festival 2017.
