2 August 1924 Writer James Baldwin is born On 2 August 1924, the American author James Baldwin was born. Baldwin is well known for writing novels, plays and essays about race and racial justice. Baldwin was very active in the civil rights movement in the US in the 1950s and 1960s, joining others to protest against the unfair treatment of black Americans and to fight for equal rights. He grew up in Harlem, a poor part of New York, and educated himself. He died in 1987.…
