Firefighters are working hard in Canada after record-breaking temperatures led to wildfires across the west of the country. There has been a heatwave over parts of Canada and the US caused by a weather event called a “heat dome”. This is when a big mass of hot air blocks cooler air from coming into the area. Experts have said that climate change could make heatwaves more common. Climate change is the long-term change in world weather patterns, including rising temperatures, caused by human activities. On 29 June the temperature reached 49.6° C in the Canadian village of Lytton, in the province of British Columbia. This was the third day in a row that Canada had recorded its highest ever temperature. Several lightning strikes then caused wildfires in the dried-out areas.…
