Kindness chosen as Word of the Year

The Oxford Children’s Word of the Year 2024 has been revealed as “kindness”. Children also voted for “slay” to be the top colloquial (slang) word of the year. What is Word of the Year all about? The Children’s Word of the Year is announced by Oxford University Press (OUP), which publishes dictionaries and reference books. It highlights a word that reflects children’s experiences over the year. A total of 6,280 children, aged from six to 14, took part in surveys to choose 2024’s Word of the Year. The research began with teachers asking children which words they thought were important.
