Peter Lantos is one of the last generation of survivors of the Holocaust. This was the killing by Nazi Germany of around six million Jewish people during the Second World War (1939–1945). Lantos was just a small boy, aged four, when his family were forced to leave their home in Hungary, and he was five years old when he and his parents were sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp (a prison camp where Jewish people were held) in Germany. His book The Boy Who Didn’t Want to Die tells Lantos’s true story of survival and offers a lasting message of love, bravery and hope against the background of the horrifying events he experienced.
