Socorro dove

Three Socorro doves have moved into London Zoo to take part in a project that aims to bring the species back to the wild. The birds, originally from Socorro Island, Mexico, haven’t been seen in the wild since 1971. There are already six Socorro doves at the zoo, and the new ones will soon be introduced to possible mates. • LIFESPAN: 6.6 years • HABITAT: Humid (wet) forests. • SIZE: 26–34 centimetres long. • DIET: Berries, insects, fruits and seeds. • FUN FACT: They are important in the wild because they scatter seeds on the ground, which sprout.…
