The Welsh and Irish rugby union teams will no longer play each other wearing their traditional red and green shirts, to help people with colour blindness. Starting with their match on 22 February in the Six Nations Championship, one team will wear a paler shirt so that supporters, players and officials who have colour blindness can tell them apart. Colour blindness is also called colour vision deficiency (CVD). It is a condition where people see some colours differently and find it hard to tell the difference between certain colours.
There are different forms of CVD, but the most common type is red/green colour blindness. People who have this can confuse the two colours because they can’t pick up the red or green elements, which means both colours appear as yellowish-brown.…
