A new type of vaccine

Scientists have developed a vaccine that can be applied to the skin as a cream, rather than being injected with a needle. Researchers discovered that the human body produces antibodies (chemicals in the blood that protect the body from infections) against a type of bacteria that is found naturally on the skin. They modified this bacteria and applied it to the skin of mice to see if their blood would produce antibodies, which it did. If further testing goes well, a cream could soon be trialled on humans.
