The Belitung shipwreck Fishermen found the wreck of this 9th-century ship near the Indonesian island of Belitung in 1998. Inside were 60,000 artefacts, including painted pottery, silver, gold and a rare golden cup with images of musicians and a dancer – the largest of its kind ever found. The tomb of Tutankhamun British explorer Howard Carter discovered the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun in November 1922. Known as the “Boy King”, Tutankhamun ruled ancient Egypt when he was just nine years old. He was buried in a gold coffin next to piles of ancient treasures.
