Rugby star draws fans

On 5 January, a record number of people turned up to watch a rugby game between Bristol Bears Women and Gloucester-Hartpury Women. Many of the 9,240 fans came to see Ilona Maher, an American rugby player who recently joined Bristol Bears. Maher became very popular during the 2024 Olympic Games when she posted lots of videos and won a bronze medal. She is now the most followed rugby union player on social media. Maher, who scored her first try for the Bears on 12 January, wants to use her star status to highlight other players, too. “We can’t just have one superstar,” she told The Guardian newspaper.…
