Malala gives speech in Pakistan’s capital
On 12 January, activist Malala Yousafzai gave a powerful speech at a summit (big meeting) in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The event brought together political leaders and experts to discuss the education of girls in countries where Islam is the official state religion. In her speech, Yousafzai discussed the Taliban’s rule of Afghanistan. The Taliban is a political and military group with extreme views that has governed the country since 2021. It has placed severe limits on women’s freedoms, including banning them from secondary and higher education, being able to work in most jobs, and from their voices being heard in public.
