Older animals need protection

A new study has found that older wild animals need to be protected because they have vital knowledge that helps the rest of their populations survive. The research looked at thousands of scientific papers on old animals, their effect on their environment and the risks they face. There are lots of ways that older animals help their environment. When older birds have chicks, they are better at providing food and finding a good place to live. This makes it more likely for the chicks to survive. Older female elephants are good at remembering which other animals are friendly and which ones aren’t. They are also better at keeping an eye out for possible dangers, such as lions.
