Three star patterns to look for in the winter sky

Orion Orion is named after a hunter from Greek mythology. The three stars in the middle of the constellation are known as “Orion’s belt”. If it’s dark enough, you may see the Orion Nebula beneath the belt. A nebula is a cloud of gas and dust in space. The Plough Also known as the Big Dipper, this is an asterism (a group of stars smaller than a constellation). It’s part of a larger constellation called Ursa Major (The Great Bear).
