Rebels pause their attacks in the DRC

A group of rebel fighters called M23, who A have vowed to take control of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), announced a ceasefire on 4 February. The rebels say the ceasefire (a pause in fighting) is so that aid can reach people living there. Evidence shows that the M23 rebels are supported by Rwanda, a neighbouring country in central Africa. Fighting between M23 and the DRC army has been going on for years, and M23 has seized control of areas where minerals (valuable metals) are mined from the ground.
