Rosita Missoni 1931–2025
Born into an Italian family that made clothes, Rosita Missoni played with scraps of material as a baby. In the 1950s, her name became known when she founded a luxury fashion brand with her husband. Rosita and Ottavio (known as Tai) met in London, when she was a student and he was an athlete at the 1948 Olympic Games. They married in Italy and opened a knitwear shop near Milan. Tai had designed sports clothes and Rosita used her family knowledge of the clothing industry. In the 1960s, they learned how to use traditional knitting machines, which Rosita’s grandparents had used to make shawls. This helped them create the coloured zigzagpatterned knitwear they became famous for. Their first catwalk show (when models parade in front of an audience) was held…
