UK celebrates Lunar New Year

People around the UK came together to welcome the Lunar New Year, which began on 29 January. In the Chinese zodiac, a system where each year is represented by one of 12 different animals, 2025 marks the Year of the Snake. East and Southeast Asian communities led public celebrations around the UK. On 2 February, thousands gathered in London’s Chinatown to watch the annual new year parade, featuring dragons, lion dancers, colourful costumes and dozens of spectacular floats (a vehicle decorated for a street parade). The event is thought to be the largest Lunar New Year celebration outside Asia, attracting about 500,000 people.
